Night Music

NIGHT MUSIC

©By Mary E. Gale

The sky closed its dark blanket outside

as three little children lay tucked snug inside

Two little girls and one little boy.

A very strange sound they heard, oh joy.

PLOP

PLOP

They jumped out of bed.

One little girl looked under that bed.

Nothing but a dust bunny popped up its head

The second girl looked out at the night.

Only the moon and stars blinked their cheery light

as they came into sight.

The little boy now ran to a closed door.

The sound came to his ears louder and louder,

that’s for sure.

PLOP

PLOP

PING

The two girls jumped back into their beds

and pulled the covers up over their heads.

As Mother came by,

the little boy pushed the door open wide.

A funny song could be heard inside.

Plop, plop, ping, pong

What a sweet little song.

"But where did it come from, Mother, dear?"

With the quiet of night the music we hear

comes from the creaks in the floor,

and the wind little people sometimes fear,

One hears even a drip at the sink into your pot,

where it was forgot.

She closed tight the valve at the sink

And kissed each child’s head, knowing

they were safe to dream and think.
